How to Cite this Site

To cite this blog in a Chicago-style footnote (the standard for historians), use the following format:

David Voelker, “Blog Entry Title,” Ex Post Facto weblog, posted on Month Date, Year, [insert full web address here] (accessed Month Date, Year).

Here, then, is a sample footnote citation for a blog post:

1. David Voelker, “Puritans and Economy,” Ex Post Facto weblog, posted on Sept. 14, 2007, http://expostfacto.historytools.org/puritans-and-economy/ (accessed Sept. 22, 2007).

(Please ignore any irregular spacing that you may see above, as your web browser is merely making room for the web address.)

If you need to cite another reader’s comment on a blog post, use this format:

2. John L., comment on “Blog Entry Title,” Ex Post Facto weblog, comment posted on Month Date, Year, [insert full web address here] (accessed Month Date, Year).

For additional citation formats, see the Chicago Manual of Style Online’s “Citation Quick Guide.”
